Welcome back! I was looking for a lower to go with my 300 Blackout upper and wanted a standard no frills lower for this build. After looking around most people suggest standard run of the mill Aero Precision gen 2 lower. The local gun shop had one so I dropped in and gave it a once over and filled the paperwork out.
I gave it a good cleaning as I do all new parts and tossed it in the safe. That week I ordered the rest of the parts and waited for them to come in. the weekend rolled around and all the parts finished coming in on Friday. I pulled the lower from the safe and started to give it a detailed look making sure I didn’t need to do any lean up. I have to say, I am impressed! For a standard Plain Jane, they sure paid attention to details on it. The finish is absolutely perfect on this lower. There are a few simple, functional, amazing details that Aero included in this lower. The rear take down pin detente hole is threaded for a set screw to hold and adjust the detente spring pressure, there is a set screw under pistol grip to tighten the upper to rear take down pin to remove any rattle. All the holes in this are clean as is the machined pockets.
Assembly was smooth with no surprises. All of the threading was clean and smooth. No machining marks to be found in any of the pockets or surfaces. All the components fit perfectly and the pins are all tight. MagPul Pmags fit perfectly and did drop free before I fixed it in place (I live in NY).
One thing to note, if you are going to use the threaded hole for the rear take down detente you will need to trim a few coils off the spring or it will put too much pressure on the detente and make the pin VERY hard to pull. Also, the setscrew for that hole is not included, this would be the only thing I would like to see Aero change.
If you’re looking for a Plain Jane lower receiver that has a few nice features this is the lower for you. Check it out at your local shop or online!
